Anyone who has taught is familiar with students’ questions such as: “Do we need to read this?” “Do we need to learn this?” How many pages do you want?” “Will I get an A?” Often, the reason given to the students is that there is a quiz or a test coming soon. To help students find answers to their questions and rethink the meaning of learning, teachers need to rethink their teaching philosophies and offer alternatives through service learning.
