Lorrie Ryan Memorial Excellence in Teaching Award

The Lorrie Ryan Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by the CMU Excellence in Teaching Award committee to a full-time CMU faculty member.  This faculty person must be nominated by one of their peers and/or students.  The nominee must demonstrate a strong teaching ethic in the classroom as evidenced by peer and alumni recommendations, exemplifies a commitment to community service, and who also personifies respect and inspiration while being a positive role model.

The committee who selects this winner is comprised of CMU faculty and follows criteria for selecting award recipients based on criteria and procedures approved by the Academic Senate.

This is an endowed award and will result in a monitory award to a faculty member each year.  To contribute to this endowment in the name of Lorrie Ryan, please contact Dan Bracken , Director of FaCIT at 989.774.3615.

Distinguished Faculty Series: Lorrie Ryan Interview

In this program Dr. Ryan discusses building community in the classroom, the value of respect, dealing with the first day of class, what she has learned from her students, Dr. Ryan’s characterization of the average CMU student, what she has learned from colleagues, suggestions for new faculty, and the value of a teaching conference.  This interview was filmed in January 2005.  Lorrie passed away September 2005, following a long battle with cancer.
